Those who have enjoyed the rare privilege of stepping inside Scott's hut often remark that it's like Scott and his men have just left. This painting not only intricately records the hut as it appears today with all its fascinating artifacts, but also captures the feeling one gets from actually being there.
Featured in the centre of the painting is the wardroom table which was the focal point of life in the hut. To the right are bunks and at the far end of the room are Ponting's darkroom and the laboratory.

The title of the painting of course refers to Oates's famous statement, found recorded in Scott's diary, when he chose to sacrifice his life in the hope that his colleagues might escape their blizzard bound tent and make it back home.

Sir Edmund Hillary with Scotts Hut print

The artist with Sir Edmund Hillary, and Sir John Ingram of the Antarctic Heritage Trust

Sir Edmund Hillary has always been one of my heroes. I was born in 1953, the year he and Tenzing Norgay conquered Mt Everest. At the launch his autobiography, "View From The Summit", I had the honour of presenting Sir Ed with one of my framed prints of Scott's Hut.
